Harold Pinter.

I had to delete twelve pictures to get my Pinter icon back, but I thought if I was going to note his actual death here I ought really to have it. Mostly my interest in Harold Pinter was due his being a repeated joke in Nightingales, but I did get properly interested in him as a playwright (if not in any sense as a poet) after seeing The Birthday Party in London this year. Mostly he's left a sizeable hole in my fantasy opening night audience.

I totally thought he was dead already, and argued with my mum for about five minutes that it must have been an old story she was reading. I am going to see my first Pinter play on Monday, I feel it should have been sooner.

Is that No Man's Land? I hope it's excellent. I don't think I've read it. I think Pinter was ill for years and years and it was fairly surprising he was alive as long as he was. But I don't think he ever died prior to a couple of days ago.

It is, and I hope so too. I heard that it was good, but I also heard that it was long, which might cancel out the goodness. I am willing, anyway.
