A quick sunflower update.

Runtface has been transplanted into a pot all by himself, to heal. He is in splendid isolation. He is also approximately 1 inch high, is finally looking more or less upright and has developed a strange brown stain all along one side of his stem. Poor Runtface.

Sunflowers 1 (Rudelypinioned), 2 (Ironicdutchess) and 3 (Slemslempike) are all approximately the same height, and that seems to be about 8 inches today. It's hard to tell because they're a bit bendy. Those three are all developing their second sets of leaves. Sunflower 4 (Siggen1) is about 7 inches, as is Sunflower 8 (Jendleberry). Sunflower 5 (Alicamel) is a bit of a weed at maybe 3 and a half inches. Sunflower 6 (Calapine) is perhaps 4 inches. Sunflower 7 (Jessandi) - about 6 inches.

I might try and take photographs but be prepared for a certain degree of abject failure.

*NEWSFLASH*

Calapine (6) has been surreptitiously OVERTAKEN by Alicamel (5) in a matter of merely a few hours. I cannot explain. Also I took some very blurry photographs and don't know how to upload them and will have to spend ages tomorrow poking various buttons and seeing what happens, but this isn't really part of the newsflash.

GO SUNFLOWER 3!

I'll tell her you said that. I think they appreciate the encouragment.

Woe, alicamel, woe. Less weedness! Toughness up a bit! Pull it together! Come on! You can tell her I said all that too. Also, is she getting enough sunlight? Water? Music? Books? I am all worried for sunflower number 5. Meep.

[identity profile] whatho.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
I shall tell her all these things. She's getting plenty of sunlight and is being turned several times a day so she grows up with good posture. And water. I might give her a bit more water now. She gets lots of music because my father plays music in the kitchen while he cooks, and yesterday she listened to I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. I hope she enjoyed it.

Poor Runtface! *sends love and encouragement*

Dude, it's like adopting a third world baby! The same vague sense of responsibility and regular updates coupled with complete lack of usefulness in any real capacity. I hope good things for Runtface nontheless, yay.

[identity profile] whatho.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm rooting for Runtface too. He had a very strange start in life when he decided to emerge from the soil stem first and kept his face firmly planted. He's a bit eccentric. Yesterday his head popped up and he stopped looking like a little green croquet hoop and more like a proper seedling. It'll be a rough night because he's just been transplanted, but he's looking plucky than ever.

But what of Jimbob Mavis Diskette The Sunflower? Is she pining for the lack of Runtface?

[identity profile] whatho.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
9! I knew I'd missed one. Hang on.

She's a proud six inches, leaning boldly away from the sunlight and just starting her second set of leaves.

Did I tell you Paul Simon felt that being 5'3 had a negative impact on his entire life? I'm 5'2 but I only laughed a tiny little bit because it probably is genuinely a bit weird being a tiny 14 year old boy. And I read lots of stuff about Paul staying with a man in Birkenhead.

I do think 1-3 are feeling a bit propped up by their lofty names. In which case, poor old Runtface.

I think his littleness is darling, but that's probably the sort of statement that makes him feel a whole lot worse about it.

Oh! That's a bit painful to know. Being with the other Paul will hopefully be a great comfort to you. I know someone who's going to London that day though. I might ask them to kidnap him.

C'mon Sunflower 1! *cheers*

If you need somewhere to upload the pictures, email me - I have webhosting :)

[identity profile] whatho.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It's doing well! I straightened them all up just now so they could be measured and 1 is actually leading by about 2 millimetres.

Many thanks for the offer. If I continue to be totally inept at working things out for myself, I may well take you up on it.

Hooray! Grow faster, #1! Feed it Red Bull!!

Uh, on second thoughts don't. I killed my plant by feeding it coca cola :(

Tut. They're getting plain cold water, and a few random fumes from the nearby hob.

Huzzah for a stern word and soem worried thoughts. Yay!

It works wonders. Your sunflower's been a bit super today.

Alice, what secret witchcraftery have you been performing? Number 5's gone rampant. I estimate it's grown an inch in the course of an evening while the rest have all stalled.

[livejournal.com profile] alicamel used WITCHCRAFT. It is the only explanation.

Ooh, I am jealous of people who managed to get a sunflower number.

Aha...he he...I'm starting the Bonsai trees soon....

I think people who didn't get a sunflower will be allowed first dibs.

I have no sunflower and this is very sad. But I am rooting for Sunflower 6 because this is a good number, and sunflower 9, because that is a good number too, if a little bit odd. SOrry. Can never resist. Um. But yes.

For photos it is very very easy. You can upload to your lj scrapbook because you are a paid user, so there is a link on your user info, and you just browse for it on your computer and it'll put it in.

Then when your photo is on the screen, scrapbook has slightly complicated instructions for posting, but the simple way is jsut to right click on it and select 'view picture', and then in your post to use the code:

[img src=http://www.url.here.com] but with the points not the squares, and voila! Picture. Yes. Behind a cut, probably;) Hurrah:)

[identity profile] whatho.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Scrapbook! Yay! Hurrah! Thank you thank you lots. I shall do these things on the morrow. Behind a cut. Yes.

You can have a bonsai tree seedling! Be warned that it may be more angstful. I had a woeful time with bonsai tree seedlings last year. And rooting for sunflowers is good too.

Oooh, yay for bonsai seedlings:) I will look forward to the slower and possibly tragic fate of footing for a bonsai:)

Six is making no attempt to grow a second set of leaves. We are a little concerned.
