My news.

It is too hot. I'm a bit champion at sleeping even when it's too hot and I'm saying to myself egad I never shall sleep for it is too hot, and then suddenly it's morning. But I am foul by morning, because though I fling my quilt to the corner I've invariably retrieved it in my sleep and tucked it around my chin.

Parents are on holiday. Brother and I are pretending to be proper grown ups now and watching things loudly and talking nonsense at top volume. Possibly not entirely the way to be grown ups. I miss being able to say random things to mother. I quite like being able to scrape hideously at the violin in the middle of the day.

The sunflowers are great and I photographed them today and will post when I've remembered how to hook up the camera. The bonsai died slightly before I could photograph it, which is more than slightly tragic.

On the plus side, I am writing Jen late birthday fic still to make up for suffocating her small tree. It is M*A*S*H fic with Frank in.

Starsky and Hutch are on telly. I forget the channel.

It's so hot. I'm quite runny with heat.

That is all.

Oh, you are swell. I think suffocating small trees should always be atoned for by fic writing:) It is for this reason that I do not suffocate small trees. Also, you do realise that I am going to somehow claim the right to the next thing you successfully grow EVER, yes? Regardless of what it might be, and regardless of how many things die in the interim. Yes. You do not have to sanction this behaviour, in my heart I will know the growing thing is mine, and that in some very small imperceptible way I THEREFORE WIN. Hurray! ::dances you::

I think you do indeed have that right. I'm not sure what my next growing endeavour will be, but be it cactus or loofah or small sentient blue being in a bell jar, it's yours.

What I have is not so much violin playing powers as a violin. It was my most impromptu buy ever. We must never make the mistake of thinking I can play it. I can make fantastically evil noises on it, but none of them are anything approaching tuneful. What upsets me most about the violin is its lack of frets. I would like one day to be able to play the Pirates theme tune on the violin. That would be lovely. At present I have given up slightly on trying, because Pirates is ambitious when the D scale is beyond me. But I did learn a bit of it on the guitar. Play 'C (pause), F (pause) CCCCG'. It's quite exciting.

Yes, it's the one with no sharps and flats. But I only know that because a clever friend told me. I don't read music. Or understand it. One good thing about the violin is that you don't really need to tune it because you can just move your fingers to a slightly different place and there you go. I understand concert violinists do not share this view of mine.
