It's oddly hard to find slash in Local Hero, but I'm managing. Mostly the men fall powerfully and overtly in love with women. I wish they wouldn't do that. But it doesn't enormously matter. Things get a lot better when Victor comes along. He comes in a motorboat with a crew member swearing massively at him in Russian. I think she's cross because he's going to stay with all his boyfriends and girlfriends in Furness instead of on his ship. Then he climbs onto the dock and kisses Denis Lawson on both cheeks, and Denis Lawson tells Victor that Mac and Danny have taken to enjoying long walks on the beach together, and all is fairly well. Except I can't slash Mac and Danny. It doesn't entirely work. Mac's a bit too distant to slash with anyone much (except the village) until he gets drunk at the ceilidh. Then he's everyone's. Mostly Denis Lawson's. Also Victor's once he realises Victor's a bit of a capitalist. I should loathe Victor a bit. But Victor loves Denis. It wins him a lot of points. I also like it when Mac falls powerfully and overtly in love with Stella, Denis Lawson's wife, and Denis Lawson doesn't mind in the least because everyone loves him anyway. Denis Lawson has a wonderful jumper. It's beige-ish and it has reinforced elbows. Then Burt Lancaster comes to Scotland and falls in love with Fulton Mackay. It all works out in the end, you see. I fairly love that film.
I threw out Runtface's mouldering grandchildren this morning, which was faintly sad, but less so once I'd rooted out Runtface's remaining children from 2006, safely unmouldy in an open plastic cup. I plan to plant them in the next couple of days. Hurrah.
