I'm not sure about the whole 2006 thing. That makes it ten years since 1996, when I started my A-levels and felt more or less like I'd arrived as a fully formed person (it was a strange moment - I was sitting on the edge of a very steep hill and I thought my voice and manner of expression and things were about as advanced as they were going to get and that I was at the top of my learning curve. Possibly I was wrong. I'm not quite sure). I think of the late nineties as my day, and I don't like their being a decade ago. Still, there we are. That's the way it is. I shall have to bally well lump it.

Now, here's a thing. Cormorants swim with only their heads above the water. I didn't know this. I saw one doing so today and thought there was something wrong with it. Then another one came along doing precisely the same thing. So if you see a cormorant doing this, don't call the RSPB and tell them it's caught up in a fishing line, because it's not. It's apparently just being a cormorant. Unless both of them were caught in fishing lines. Oh dear. What have I done?
