The spider in the bath,
Dec. 3rd, 2006 06:02 pm'What a frightful looking beast -
half an inch across at least.
It would frighten even Superman or Garth.
There's contempt it can't disguise
in the little beady eyes
of the Spider sitting glowering in the bath.
It ignores my every lunge
with the back brush and the sponge.
I have bombed it with a present from Penarth.
It just rolls into a ball,
doesn't seem to mind at all,
and simply goes on squatting in the bath.' Flanders & Swann.
There was quite a substantial spider in the bath last night. His body was about the size of a humbug or a sherbert lemon, and he had thickish legs. I was sufficiently bold to say hello to him and continue to brush my teeth instead of simply fleeting, but not sufficiently bold to pick him up in my hands and put him in the garden. My father had to be called in for that part. One day I do plan on picking up a spider than goes beyond my comfort zone (namely greater the size of a penny), but it wasn't yesterday.
I found a mince pie though, at a local baker's, and it was warm and good and correct. So I shan't have to resort to crack cocaine. That's always a plus.
