I've been watching those BBC documentaries about the three Indian mountain railways in Shimla, Darjeeling and Ooty, and they've made me long for a new career as an engineer in the Himalayas, but not so much a porter. This didn't really help with my continued self-image as a giant bag of missed opportunities (I shock you). I'd like to convince myself that I didn't really have anything much in the way of choices, but it isn't true - I've never had much money to spare on things like going to India, but people get around that by having careers that enable them to travel. Constantly being told I'm irreplacable at work seems a better excuse but what really would've happened had I just gone? Why didn't I go anywhere when my parents lived at home and thus could've looked after my cat (who I love more than opportunities)? Why why why why ANYWAY. I know this is monumentally boring, and I'll stop now. The documentaries, at any rate, are well worth watching: they're about the railway workers - porters, stationmasters, engineers - and not so much about gauges and brake wheels. They subtitle people who speak perfectly clear English, which is infuriating, but otherwise they're grand.

Do you think it'd be helpful for me to list all my missed opportunities? I'm thinking not.

(Tuvok just had a bit of a panic about Neelix's wheel of cheese. It's an indicator of bacterial infection, which I expect is fairly upsetting when you're Tuvok. Now they've taken the cheese to the doctor. I like this episode.)

I've not really got around to my subject yet. First ten commenters will get ten drabbles of their choosing unless I veto their choosing. I'm willing to try writing in fandoms I know but have not yet written in. Not so much in fandoms of which I have no knowledge. I think that's the norm. Go.
