I went out today, shunning public transport and went for a bit of a walk because I was feeling sort of cooped up. It was chilly and blue and quite pleasant. And on the way home, I met a flasher. Well, more a sort of a waver really. He crossed the road, stood in the pavement (quite undone) and sort of...waved, and nodded and made a bold suggestion that I politely declined in the middle of a hearty laugh. Is it meant to be funny? It's about 15 years since I've encountered one. I can't remember. I laughed. I hope it proved deflating. I managed not to say 'This is a good area, this'. Which it was rather. I wish I'd said it now. Never mind. Anyway, that was novel.

What was I going to say? Oh yes. I watched 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet' yesterday, an episode from the first season. I do love it lots. And Helmut loves Neville without a doubt. I didn't notice it before, but I can see it now as clear as day. There's a scene in the second episode that's the best example of its kind: Neville and Helmut's father trying to communicate without a shared language. What they manage to communicate is the fact that Neville's grandfather was sunk by a German battleship in WW2, at which the old man says 'Good!' (but in German) - nothing to do with the subject matter but the joy at having understood what was being said. It's a brilliant scene. You should watch it.

And now it is time for tea.

Aw...! I think it was drabble, actually. He doesn't sound like even a hundred words, though.

Yay! I don't think there's a community for drabbles like that though. He was very few words.

Oh my! I don't know if it's meant to be amusing, I'm not sure what it's meant to be. Next time you should maybe ask. Yes. Dude.

Yes. I'm not sure. 'Oh my' would be quite a good response too. But yes...is this meant to be amusing? That's my line.

Was he waving his hand, or waving something else with his hand?

I am reminded of this postcard.

I shall leave it to your imagination.

How picturesque.

I imagined he'd just be waving the something else. But perhaps that would have been wobbling rather than waving?

I am reminded of the time when my A-level English group went on a school trip to see That Naked Hamlet Production (I mean Hamlet was naked, not all of them, and only for one scene). I think the most used phrase, in narrating the event to form-mates afterwards, was 'flip, flop, flip' with appropriate hand gestures. Erm, apart from all of the really mature Shakespeare criticism, obviously.

Wow! Our A-level English course was never that much fun! We went to see Hamlet too, but he was clothed. On the plus side, he was Alex Jennings and it was a really good production. But I can't help feeling we missed out.
