My First Quilling.

QuilledFlower

It's quite easy! Occasionally a quilled box or some such thing turns up on, um, Bargain Hunt, and I thought I might like to try it for Naarmamo, so today I snipped the end off the eye of a darning needle with pliers and stabbed it into the rubber end of a pencil to make a homemade quilling tool. Then I fed a load of black card into a shredder, and voila. A flower and a bee. I might get some coloured card later and try some quilling with that, though I quite like the monochrome effect as well.

Thanks! Really quite easy to do, if a bit time-consuming, and lots of fun.

Love the whole home-made aspect of it - that you didn't go out and buy a kit or anything. Lovely!

Yes, I imagine quilling is the sort of thing that you can buy in a box from a haberdashery, but it seems very easy to DIY. I'm quite pleased with my weird homemade pencil-needle hybrid tool.

This is properly gorgeous. GO TEAM QUILLING. I don't EVEN TOTALLY KNOW what quilling is. But WELL DONE.

QUILLING SHOULD BE OLYMPIC. It's coiling strips of paper and then pinching them into interesting shapes and sticking them to things. Gentle Ladies of Quality (I am quoting directly from Wikipedia) did it in the 18th century. It was thought not too taxing for their gentle dispositions. I hope some of them subverted that notion by quilling scenes of gory death. But it's well pretty anyway. Here is an amazing fish that someone else did: http://www.odditycentral.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Quilling-art.jpg

I am missing Naarmamo this year, but am very glad that I can live it by proxy still. This is fab, but the fabmostness is the home made quilling tool.

I genuinely thought of leaving the actual quilling till tomorrow and just submitting a photo of the quilling tool today. That's how disproportionately proud I am of my pencil with the disfigured needle sticking out the end of it.
