I was just reading comments arguing about whether or not objecting to the phrase "wheelchair bound" was "overly PC" or not, so it took be a second or so to work out what you meant. I hope the bus eventually comes.
Ugh. There's an NHS doctor who writes a blog, and he is often rather awful. Saying that the £100,000 GP salary wasn't enough to have a non-working wife and four children at private school, that kind of thing. Anyway, he was writing about one of his patients and said that she was "wheelchair bound". A reader emailed to say that she hated the term, and preferred "wheelchair user", which better reflected that the wheelchair gave her freedom instead of restricting her. And he posted saying that he almost emailed and apologised, but instead has put up the email to mock the PCness of people and the deterioration of language today etc etc blah blah.
I'm going to reference the Transformers cartoon, so please to be forgiving me for that, but I recall this episode in which Soundwave (good old Soundwave) referred to a boy in a wheelchair as 'the mobilised human'. I rather liked that.
SHE TRIED TO COME BACK. She 'phoned and said she'd forgotten her book and that she'd come back for it, but my father said NO rather louder than he'd meant to and is going to post it on to her. I have ceased to shake.
