I had a nice Christmas.

I had a nice Christmas. Everyone else said this and I forgot to. It was most pleasant. Nothing was burnt and no-one was drunk. My brother did spend two and half hours talking to his fiancee on MSN when we were supposed to be doing present-opening, but you can't have everything. We dressed for dinner on a vaguely deranged whim. There's so much chocolate in the house that it'd be upsetting if it wasn't chocolate. I played Tomb Raider IV in a vest. I was only accidentally wearing a vest but it seemed appropriate enough to say it out loud. I'm having lots of fun with Tomb Raider IV. There are assassins after Lara with swords at present and I gather there's going to be a motorbike. My brother got me this game. I refused to play it for years because Tomb Raider's quite an investment in blood pressure terms and there are always zombies hiding around corners and basically it's all a bit ARGH, but he said I had to knuckle down and stop being cowardly about it, so there we are. I also have books and tokens and little wooden boxes and a Sims expansion pack and way too much food, and no socks. I do have socks. Don't think of me as sockless.

New Year, incidentally, is banned. It's not to be a decade since 1998. Just so you know.

I shall not think of you as sockless. I am currently wearing a pair of my Christmas socks, which look like they're black, but are stealthily stripy on the bottom. They look a bit like the old Spectrum loading screen.

I've never played Tomb Raider. Should one?

I don't know if Tomb Raider would have the same impact now as it did in 1995 or 1996 or whenever it was, when it seemed to me a very exciting development. But I do enjoy the games. Lara's pyramidal breasts annoy me a little and I don't like her shooting animals or being chased by men with flamethrowers. But the exploring's very jolly, and the driving, and the adrenaline thing from coming around a corner and saying hello to a winged zombie creature. That sort of thing.

I judge your brother quite harshly yet again, UGH. Well done on your vest situation, that's a bit winning.

Maybe there will be a time swirl at new year in some sort of sci fi way and everything will be okay again. MAYBE LIKE.

He's doing it again, you know. And he's closed the study door, and my mother opened it a few inches so she could get her sewing box and he got up from the computer and closed it again quite firmly. But I spied through the window and discovered that at least he's wearing clothes. So that's something.

I'm pinning all my hopes on a time-swirl, essentially. I hope I'm not horribly disappointed in any sense.
