The BBC website has the 'Mugabe stripped of knighthood' headline on the main page with the 'Salman Rushdie knighted' headline floating past it on the ticker. Mostly I'm thinking it's a bit like, you know, a straight swap type thing and Rushdie has to make do with with the tainted second-hand knighthood of shame. And yes.

Did they knight him? I thought they just gave him letters. I think Lovely Humph turned down a lot of knighthoods and things though. Maybe they had to use one up on RTD.

Oh, it's ENTIRELY possible that they didn't. I pretty much look at any letters and go AHA, ANOTHER KNIGHTHOOD! I hope he got one of those lesser honours, though. I don't think he deserves a knighthood on any level, especially not Humph's castoffs.

Yes! I thought that. I hope it's true. Maybe we have to have a certain number of knights at any one time in case of emergency and so they rushed it through. On the rss bookmark which just lists headlines (and which is all I know about the news because I so rarely bother to click on the links) they have the Mugabe thing at the top and then "knighthood GOES TO Rushdie", at the bottom, which makes it entirely sound like it has gone from one to the other. I'm willing to believe.

I love that they're in a panic in case we actually NEED our knights for, like, jousting purposes or something. Maybe that's why Milliband was in such a tizzy. Because we didn't have a squire lined up.

I hadn't heard about Rushdie. I really wish they hadn't given him more attention. Hasn't he cost us enough for his little ego trip?
