I found a couple of episodes of TNG knocking around on a channel I didn't know existed, and instead of writing or doing the crossword or learning to speak Hindi, I sat down and watched them. OH HOW I LOVE THEM.

The first one was all about how much Picard is in love with Worf. The mother of Worf's appalling child was visiting the Enterprise as an emissary. I think, on balance, this episode was probably 'The Emissary'. Worf was baffled by the mother of his appalling child because she wouldn't marry him in a strange and impromptu fashion on the holodeck, even though they'd had sex some years previous. In many ways, Worf was born in 1883. The mother of Worf's appalling child, who has a name beginning with K and probably continuing with an apostrophe, was mostly reluctant to marry Worf because she'd fallen in love fairly profoundly with Counsellor Troi. But Worf wasn't buying it and continued to angrily recite the vows even after she'd repeatedly said thanks but no. Then she went away and I don't entirely blame her. Worf wasn't in a great mood throughout this episode. He stomped onto the bridge and interrupted an important conversation about navigation or something with a brilliant growling mumble that made everybody stop and stare at him. Then Picard took him into a corner, which is to say a curve 'cause they don't really do corners on the Enterprise, for a quiet talk. WHY DOES PICARD NEVER TAKE ME INTO A CORNER FOR A QUIET TALK? It was the most meltingly excellent quiet talk in the history of quiet talks. Mostly he told Worf to go away and relax. Worf did his puffer-fish act and said something massively insubordinate that made Picard do a clever thing with his eyebrows. Then Worf deflated slightly and said 'Yes, sir'. Not sorry. I love that Worf doesn't say sorry. Picard was very forgiving. That's because Picard is in love with Worf. And then they had sex. Or something. I didn't really catch the last ten minutes.

(At the beginning of the episode, during the poker game, Worf revealed that Klingons never bluff. Strategically speaking, I doubt that was an excellent move.)

The second episode was about how much Picard is in love with Riker. It had a subplot about how much Worf is in love with Riker, and a secondary subplot about how much Picard is in love with Data, but Picard/Riker was the driving thrust of the whole endeavour. They were playing war games. The episode might've been called 'War Games,' but really that's only a guess. Picard, in an unimaginative but understandable move, was in charge of the Enterprise, and Riker was in charge of a significantly more broken ship nearby. He had to cope with having Wesley on his team, but he made for up for it by nabbing Worf. Worf was doing an Airfix kit in his bedroom that morning. Riker rang the bell - sort of - and Worf jumped a foot in the air and broke his model. It was tragic and brilliant and it made him very cross, and he threw the pieces into the bin. But he forgot how cross he was when Riker came in and said 'BE ON MY TEAM, OH DO' and Worf said 'I'll do that, yes' and it was great. They got Geordi as well. Where is the Data/Geordi fic? It's not as though there's anything more obvious in the world. Anyway, Picard fought Riker and Riker pretty much won. 'He's the best,' said Picard, re. Riker. 'I told you he's the best,' said Picard five minutes later, re. Riker.

I love TNG.

Then I watched the dancing. I did have some dinner in between. Between whiles. But mostly I watched the dancing. The lack of Don takes the shine off like whacking great woah. But the presence of John makes me glow. He did a very darling paso, and he didn't even smile. It was powerfully stompy. Well done him. Cherie had an awful stumble at the beginning of her routine and was visibly unnerved throughout the rest of it, but I think she acquitted herself absurdly well considering. But I voted for John.

And that was primarily my day.

The episodes with Klingon Angst are my least favourite TNG episodes. The episdoes with Wesley Crushere are my other least favourite TNG episodes.

Cherie did well. She'll be fine.

I voted for John and Heather because Heather is sweet and lovely and there was blatantly racist voting going on last week because why else would Castle and the swimmer have made it through and both Don and Heather be in the dance-off? I'm not a 'racist behind every bush' type of person. But that I think had a definite whiff about it.

Anyway.

But Klingon angst makes Worf swell up like a lovely great barrage balloon! Then Picard can give him a pep talk and Worf can give him a look and nothing can ever really be resolved but somehow it all makes for an excellent scene.

Last week was well dodgy dancing-wise, yes. Mother came home the next evening and the first thing she said pretty much was about how disturbingly racist that whole outcome had seemed. I thought Heather did a really good job this week. And John was John, which is all we can really ask of him.

'War Games' indeed. THAT'S A MIGHTY TROUGHT EPISODE SAM NOT TREK (I want to call it evil!trek but then I remembered I quite love Trek and that that would be a lie). It was Peak Performance. I watched it too. I love the face Pulaski makes at Data to get him to do the game thing even though I am not generally in favour of Pulaski.

JOHN SERGEANT WAS GREAT.

I knew it was an episode of something. I think I was FAIRLY close. I tried to start a Trek/Who war with my brother in our youth but he liked both of them and wasn't have any of it. He was more grown up than I. I'm warming to Pulaski a lot more than I did when I was wee, but she is fairly awful to Data. Darta.

OH JOHN SERRGEANT OH.

Kehleyr? With an apostrophe somewhere. Is the Alexander-mummy, I mean. Who is also Dr Selar and the girl-Q. Which means that Q and Worf really needed to have a showdown about their ladies. That should be movie eleven, not the nonsense they have in store.

That's the one. Well done. I don't remember her being the girl Q. That's great. They have such silly ideas about what movie eleven should be when there's so much future to choose from.
