There's been a thing this year with quite a few of the professional dancers, most particularly Brendan, saying they can't really enjoy their success because it comes at the expense of someone else. Which is very sweet on the whole and divinely uncompetitive. And technically they ought to be ECSTATIC right now, though for NO PARTICULAR REASON I sort of imagine they aren't. But it does make me laugh a bit. I keep trying to imagine Michael Schumacher saying 'I'd love to celebrate my seventh championship, but I can't stop thinking about those twenty-one other people who were denied success by my brilliance'. It always ends with his guffawing like an absolute drain. Or Stephen Hendry. Stephen Hendry crying because he's in the top sixteen and everyone else is back into triple figures.

I'm not criticising. I'm just laughing. Dancing's so weird.

OH SO TRUE.

I will take that Schumacher image to bed with me, which is possibly more information than you needed to know.

I miss Schumacher so much. I don't understand his continued failure to be in F1.

Or Stephen Hendry

"And I'd just like to say," Hendry shifted his grip on the trophy, "That although this trophy, this victory means a lot to me, that we're all winners here."

"Stephen?"

"I may have won this match, and Mark hasn't really got out his chair at all today-"

"Except for the break-off shots." Steve put in.

"Except for that," Stephen nodded. "We've all played well this past week, and it's a shame only one of us can be holding this oversized cheque. I feel really bad for the other guys."

"You do?" Davis was beginning to wish he hadn't bribed John out of taking the post-match interview.

"Could we keep my win a bit quiet?" Stephen asked, leaning in and turning away from the cameras and the audience. "Only I wouldn't want to rub in my evident superiority too much. It'd be a bit bad form."

"Stephen, are you sure you're all right?" Davis put a concerned hand on his shoulder. "You haven't been drinking, or taking cough medicine or-"

"No, I'm fine," Hendry replied. "There's too much focus on winning in this sport, don't you think, Steve?"

"What?" Davis had hit bemused a while back and was rapidly cycling through states of confusion.

"When that's not what's," A movement behind them caught Hendry's eye. "Have you got it, Mark?"

"Live and in colour," Williams answered, holding out the phone to Hendry. Looking over his friend's shoulder, he added, "I particularly like the one where his mouth just sort of flaps open."
