It's a great day to be Slovakian, says an ITV football commentator. Well patently there's nothing special about it unless you happen to be a Slovakian person who supports your national side at football, and why would you if you don't stand to gain any sweets? Personally I think it's a much better day to be a person who drew Slovakia in the sweepstake. I enjoyed that very unlikely game quite a lot except for the bits I didn't watch because I was too nervous. I've no interest in football as a rule, unless you could Clough/Taylor, but sweepstakes make it all impossibly thrilling. My father used to participate in a sweepstake at work and for however long his team stayed in (and once it was the Czech Republic, who unexpectedly made it to the final) football was the most important thing in the world, almost, not entirely, but you know. I didn't like it when Slovakia TO A MAN, practically, lay on the floor and pretended to be hurt, aside from that man whose knee was split open and who played on regardless. He ran up and down a bit at the side of the pitch to prove that he could keep playing. But apart from that the game was excellent. There were surprising goals and a disallowed goal and some fighting in a net. I don't know for what more a bod could ask.

In other news, I think tennis is absurd. Not so much absurd as astronomically dull. It's fast grunty catch with a lot of pausing. And apparently tennis doesn't work along the 'best of' or 'first to' or 'whatever you can do in this amount of time' principles, like sensible sport does. I have no idea what principles it does work along and I'd be grateful if you didn't attempt to tell me, but whatever they are I'm sure they make very little sense. Imagine if snooker worked like tennis apparently does. I don't think its having accidentally lasted for eleven hours or whatever it was made it any less dull, to be honest, but I did think it sort of amusing and I enjoyed the Guardian's blog. I wanted the man who wasn't wearing a back-to-front baseball cap to win, but seemingly he didn't. Hey ho.

And these are my opinions about sport.

I'm enjoying the football more this year than most years, even though I always quite like a world cup. I especially like having every team represent someone on my flist, though. It makes EVERY GOAL like a brilliant random attack of violence among my friends group.

Tennis is really very dull. I managed to enjoy one whole match last year, though. In my effort to like all sports. Maybe I will try another one this year, or maybe I get a pass because of all the football.

This made me laugh LOTS, though my insides are broken and I wish I were in India.

I fail to see the attraction of tennis. I've tried a bit 'cause I have friends who seem to thrilled by it and I continue not to be. I nearly had an argument once with a man who claimed tennis was enthralling and F1 was interminably dull (in the late nineties, when Schumacher was winning things), only I decided to go 'chuh' and walk away instead.

This looks a bit bad now that I read it back.

I only don't wish I was in India because of the heat. I am sorry you are not in India. Sort of.

Actually, yes, I wish I was in India and that it was winter. Being in India now would be upsetting. Mostly I ruined myself by inadvisedly watching those BBC documentaries about the Indian hill railways and filling myself with DESPERATE NEED to visit them. Or be an engineer on them. Or something. Thinking of the hideous heat is quite a good cure though.
