whathoMy laptop has been mended for the second time. I took advantage of the first torrential-rain-free morning since its breakage to miss the bus by half a minute and walk four miles to the dealers with the thing slung over my dodgiest shoulder. Then it started to rain two miles in. But we got there, and I went to their offices and made a weird impression by referring to the laptop as 'he' and saying that 'we' had only been using the laptop for wordprocessing, we being the laptop and myself, and then dismissing the nice man's profuse apologies for the laptop's repeated failure by telling him it's all my fault for being cursed. Really I need to think more before I go out among public people.
Nonetheless, he took it away and brought it back ten minutes later and it was working. He said he didn't expect it to nadger itself again, though it's not like anyone expected it the other two times either, and that it probably went awry because the drive wasn't sitting properly or something, but that if it did implode slightly again it'd mean there was a severish fault with its innards that was causing it to crash. And I wondered slightly if I could bear its imploding again without sledgehammering a wall to pieces. I don't think I'd sledgehammer the laptop because, in spite of its having brought me nothing but heartache (and admittedly four months of solid graft), I've developed a rather fierce love for it. But there we are. Now there is the nervous waiting for the next failure, or possibly not.
