Who.

I watched an entire episode of Who for the first time this season, because I needed to be using the computer and it's in the same room as the telly, and though I don't actually like much discussing things that don't particularly do it for me, mostly I thought the following two things:

1. 'Does this thing work as a teleport? Because that would be extraordinarily happy for reasons of having condensed too much plot into far too little time.'
'Yes. Yes, it does.' I'm paraphrasing, but that really did seem to be the kernel of the exchange and... well... ever so slightly of every other exchange in the entire thing except where it was just blatant exposition. And I didn't think that sort of writing was allowed on telly.

2. Why are they all the same character? Both new doctors and the new master and, to a slightly lesser extent, Jack are all quirkily hyperactive pretty bouncy young people. I don't really like people like that, but that's not the point. It's a bit like in The West Wing when you could put a solid ruler over the character cues on a transcript and then you couldn't actually tell which bit of dialogue belonged to which character.

Possibly having been in it for the long haul would've made a difference possibly. Let's be assuming that quite massively.

I wouldn't assume too much. It was disappointing, I think. So unsubtle. *mopes*

I... yes. I thought these things. Not the disappointing bit because I wasn't appointing anything, not having been watching. But it did, stroke-wise, really seem rather broad to me. Yes.

You are quite right about the Drs and the Master, but John Sim was brilliant in last week's.

Ah... I did see a tiny bit of the regeneration and it reminded me powerfully of the regeneration from nine to ten with the whole new teeth thing that I somewhat didn't like. But only that tiny bit, then I think I had a bath. Certainly I'm not in a position to be judging like a great big massive judgey thing in any sense.

I loved it. John Simm is very pretty. Also the Doctor might need to kidnap the Master and chain him to something, and then force him to eat. THINK ON THAT.

Wheee. That'd be like clone-slash. But yes. If it deliberately ticks ninety percent of the boxes on my kinks list I shall at the very least sit quiet and uncomplaining same time same channel.

Oh, god, I can't believe the dialogue. In my probably-lying brain, it wasn't quite so bad when Eccleston was the Doctor but there's definitely no escaping how similar Tennant and John Simm are - especially compared with Derek Jacobi being MASTERFUL last week.

I COULDN'T BELIEVE SO MUCH OF IT. I feel kind of unspeakably underwhelmed. Dude.

I did actually watch the whole of the Eccleston series, yes, even though I didn't like either his doctor or Rose, so I think probably I can't have been seeing anything I objected to in the laziness of the dialogue and the plotting as much as I did in that episode. Creating Eccleston clones didn't help, I suppose. And isn't Derek Jacobi as the Master such a better idea than another Tennant? What does this series have against people who aren't very much like David Tennant?

We should form a support group. Stand against the tide of overwhelming love for this episode.

I have found several people, SEVERAL! Who are not in love with the episode. It is making me happy and my flist a bit of a strange place, because normally I can just blanketly disagree with every post and now i am having to not do that because some people are going 'hm'.

You've invented a new adverb! 'Blanketly'. And thank you for your support.

OH GOD I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY PERSON WHO THOUGHT THIS ABOUT THE WEST WING AND YOU NOT ONLY THINK IT ALSO BUT ARTICULATE IT VERY WELL

It's massively true! Someone - quite a fan - tested me using the above method after I unwisely articulated to them the belief that all the characters shared the authorial voice, and they were trying to prove that it wasn't the case. And I got every single character wrong.

Even like the JANITORS talked like they were Presidents of these United States. Even the TAXI DRIVERS did. I risk challengement by stating thus. Not that I am judgey of REAL LIFE TAXI DRIVERS because actually if they did all declaim in carefully wrought speeches it might be better than being unable to talk in clear English. <--- I am not being racist here, I just struggle with accents. Once I tried to a give a Sikhular taxi gentleman 80p, because he seemed to be saying EIGHTY! It turned out, much later, that he was saying EIGHTEEN. He wanted that quantity of pounds sterling. I was thrusting a badly judged amount towards him.

So that's NOT RACIST.

YOU SAID TRUE THINGS! DUDe.

I didn't think that sort of writing was allowed on telly.

Aaaaaaaaa this is so the only reaction to this series of who that it is possible to have oh god it is all awful and in some ways that was worse becuase they had two characters who were both David Tennant's doctors, but also it was slightly less bad than other episodes in some ways because sometimes it's incredibly dull and stuff but oh. you say true things.

Mostly I cope with it very well by not watching, but watching made me even more agog than I thought it would. AND ALL THE TENNANTS. WHY? I'd swear I've seen lots of fictional characters who are nothing like David Tennant's doctor. Is this VERY revolutionary?

OH GOD IT IS SO SAD. nobody is allowed to be not like David Tennant unless they are in love with David Tennant in which case they are allowed to rescusitate people and flinch when we mention Rose. THAT IS THE LAW.

I genuinely think I've never seen quite such a self-indulgent piece of writing. Certainly you're allowed to populate your fanfic with only the character type you personally enjoy and the worshippers of that character type, but then I think the rule is that you're supposed to post in on your LJ, and not on the BBC.

Alice - IAWTC. (Also, the people over the road are playing the Julian/Paul song that you songvidded, they seem to have it on repeat, it is making me sad for their BEAUTIFUL LOVE.)

Whatho - HEllo. I have quoted this comment in my journal and also linked people here and I just realised I didn't ask and I can not do that if you'd rather obviously I can do that, yes. Sorry. I just am a bit in love with people saying TRUE THINGS OH.

Absolutely you may - thanks. Feel free to correct the errant 'in' to an 'it' or whatever it's supposed to be.

I love you very much for this. :-)

I have money on anvils shaped like the similarities between the tenth Doctor and Simm!Master raining down on the audience during the next episode.

Hee... it will be quite fun if he feels suddenly he has to explain his proliferation of David Tennants as some description of metaphor type thing. Oh, he should've just copied that episode of Star Trek when they split Kirk into good and evil and had William Shatner play both of them! I don't mean William Shatner should be playing the master. Well. Maybe I do.

I think David Tennant should've played both the Doctor and the Master (y'know, if we have to have Tennant!Doctor at all) but as the Master he could've worn an eyepatch like alt!Brigadier in Inferno because it's a well-known skiffy FACT that evil twins always have either eyepatches or villainous moustaches or both.
