Who.

I watched an entire episode of Who for the first time this season, because I needed to be using the computer and it's in the same room as the telly, and though I don't actually like much discussing things that don't particularly do it for me, mostly I thought the following two things:

1. 'Does this thing work as a teleport? Because that would be extraordinarily happy for reasons of having condensed too much plot into far too little time.'
'Yes. Yes, it does.' I'm paraphrasing, but that really did seem to be the kernel of the exchange and... well... ever so slightly of every other exchange in the entire thing except where it was just blatant exposition. And I didn't think that sort of writing was allowed on telly.

2. Why are they all the same character? Both new doctors and the new master and, to a slightly lesser extent, Jack are all quirkily hyperactive pretty bouncy young people. I don't really like people like that, but that's not the point. It's a bit like in The West Wing when you could put a solid ruler over the character cues on a transcript and then you couldn't actually tell which bit of dialogue belonged to which character.

Possibly having been in it for the long haul would've made a difference possibly. Let's be assuming that quite massively.

Oh, god, I can't believe the dialogue. In my probably-lying brain, it wasn't quite so bad when Eccleston was the Doctor but there's definitely no escaping how similar Tennant and John Simm are - especially compared with Derek Jacobi being MASTERFUL last week.

I COULDN'T BELIEVE SO MUCH OF IT. I feel kind of unspeakably underwhelmed. Dude.

I did actually watch the whole of the Eccleston series, yes, even though I didn't like either his doctor or Rose, so I think probably I can't have been seeing anything I objected to in the laziness of the dialogue and the plotting as much as I did in that episode. Creating Eccleston clones didn't help, I suppose. And isn't Derek Jacobi as the Master such a better idea than another Tennant? What does this series have against people who aren't very much like David Tennant?

We should form a support group. Stand against the tide of overwhelming love for this episode.

I have found several people, SEVERAL! Who are not in love with the episode. It is making me happy and my flist a bit of a strange place, because normally I can just blanketly disagree with every post and now i am having to not do that because some people are going 'hm'.

You've invented a new adverb! 'Blanketly'. And thank you for your support.
